Traversant Group Welcomes Aboard Senior Consultant with Strong Legislative Experience
Shannon Whiteaker brings robust expertise in private and public sectors to the firm
(PHOENIX – July 1, 2020) — Traversant Group, the firm that advises and opens doors for companies looking to form winning relationships with the government, today announces a new addition to its leadership team. Shannon Whiteaker has joined the company as senior consultant, marking the next step in her illustrious career. She has spent the past 15 years focusing on building rewarding relationships with public officials and their staff in the executive and legislative branches of state government, as well as within local municipalities throughout Arizona. Whiteaker has amassed extensive knowledge about government processes and dynamics, and about how private companies can work with the public sector more effectively and accomplish more.
“I’m thrilled to call Shannon part of our team,” says Jennifer Woods, president of Traversant Group. “Her work to date as both advisor and advocate for clients has been remarkable. She’s also an Arizona native who understands the many nuances of government in general, and our state more specifically. Shannon has forged many relationships with decision makers in both private and public sectors, and is well-respected in both communities. I have no doubt that Traversant Group’s clients will benefit from these connections, as well as her behind-the-scenes perspectives and sharp insights. We’re very lucky to have her.”
Prior to joining Traversant Group, Whiteaker supported various public health legislative efforts at the State Capitol as the Department of Health Services' chief legislative officer. She also worked as an associate within the private sector, during which time she lobbied on behalf of her clients to help them achieve their business goals.
“From a young age, my dad wanted me to understand politics so he planted the seed that ultimately fueled my career path,” says Whiteaker. “If the government was going to make decisions that dictated my life, I wanted to understand and be a part of the process. Over time, I’ve eagerly learned as much as possible about the political process and my role in it. I feel very fortunate to join Traversant Group and be able to expose our clients to the legislature, helping them make the key connections they need. I really admire Jennifer Woods as president of the firm - and as a person - and I look forward to serving alongside her in this role.”
Whiteaker has her bachelor's degree in Political Science and American History from Arizona State University and a master's degree in Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) from Northwestern University. While pursuing her master's degree, she worked as a paralegal at a law firm while also interning in the Office of the Press Secretary for Rahm Emanuel, mayor of Chicago at the time. Whiteaker returned to Arizona after this time, working as an analyst and constituent liaison for Bill Gates, then-councilman at the City of Phoenix. She officially begins her employment with Traversant Group on July 1.
